The convoy of Laghman Governor Rahmatullah Yarmal was blown up before noon today (Monday, October 05).
At least four security guards and four civilians were killed in a car bomb attack on the governor's office in Laghman's Sultan Ghazi Baba district at around 10am, the interior ministry said.
The ministry said two of the governor's bodyguards and 28 civilians were injured in the incident, including children.
A spokesman for Laghman's governor, Asadullah Dawlatzai, said Mr Yarmal had not been harmed.
He also confirmed the death toll, but added that the exact number was not yet known.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, the Laghman education department said the windows of two schools belonging to the urban education department were shattered and four students were injured.
This is despite the recent increase in suicide attacks and bombings in the country, with most of the casualties being civilians.
