President Trump says he is making peace, but from a strong position.
US President Donald Trump has said that his country is working to end the ongoing war in Afghanistan."We will soon withdraw our troops from Afghanistan," President Trump told the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.
President Trump, speaking on condition of anonymity, said previous US governments had ignored their people and made failed agreements.
"The United States wants peace in the world, but in that peace, the United States speaks from a strong position," he said
Inter-Afghan talks between the Afghan government and Taliban negotiators in Doha are continuing at the same time as President Trump's latest remarks.
So far the two sides have not been able to agree on a modus operandi for the talks, "and therefore the main talks have not yet begun."
