Sources told that President Ghani and a number of politicians agreed at a meeting in the citadel on Monday (August 9th) to establish a joint popular campaign against the Taliban.
According to these sources, many prominent political and popular leaders are involved in the campaign, and they will work in specific areas to mobilize the people against the Taliban.
Today's meeting was attended by President Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah, Abdul Rab Rasoul Sayyaf, Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, Mohammad Mohaqiq, Karim Khalili, Younis Qanuni, Mansour Naderi, Rahman Rahmani, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Fazlullah Hadi Muslimyar, Speaker of the Senate.
"They discussed and decided on the coherence and equipping of the popular uprisings under the umbrella of the country's security and defense forces and urgent measures to suppress the enemies of Afghanistan," said Mohammad Amiri, the vice president's spokesman.
Sources add that all political and popular leaders are involved in the campaign, specifying how many forces they have to mobilize and use them against the Taliban.
"Today, the political leaders suggested that Marshal Dostum be given major military responsibility," said Ehsan Niroo, a spokesman for Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum.
The decision came after the same politicians met with Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the Supreme National Reconciliation Council, in Sepidar three days ago to discuss the establishment of a joint campaign against the Taliban.
"In war, a one-minute opportunity is very important," said Mehrabuddin Safi, a former military man. In war, when plans are made, they must be implemented as soon as possible. "Patience in this case is to our detriment."
"Unless we see the performance of this headquarters in practice, we can not trust the word," added Hamid al-Din Yoldash, a member of the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, sources told that Abdullah Abdullah will leave for Doha tonight to attend a three-day summit. Representatives of the region, the European Union and the United States are expected to vote on peace in Afghanistan. But it is unclear whether Mr Abdullah will meet with Taliban representatives.
