Some sources today (Monday, August 9) say that after the fall of Taloqan city, the capital of Takhar province, government forces were able to capture Farkhar and Versaj districts of the province.

The sources added that the Taliban were able to capture all parts of Taloqan late yesterday by attacking the city of Taloqan, but hundreds of government forces retreated from Taloqan to Farkhar and Versaj districts and captured them.

But the Taliban and independent sources have not confirmed the news.

Meanwhile, a number of Takhar residents have criticized the government for its recklessness in dealing with the poor security situation in the province, blaming the government for the collapse.

On the other hand, local sources say that heavy fighting between government forces and the Taliban continues in Dehdadi district of Balkh province.

Dehdadi district governor Sayed Mustafa Sadat said the fighting began in the middle of the night in four vineyards near the Mazar-e-Sharif fertilizer and power plant and the Imam Bakri Bridge.

He added that the war was ongoing and that there were no reports of casualties.

Local sources say that if government forces are not supported by the air force, their line of defense may be broken.

Fighting continued in Kunduz, Jawzjan, Herat and Helmand provinces yesterday
